Family Documentary

Capturing the real story

I can't pretend to be a photojournalist on any level, but I do enjoy trying to tell family stories through documentary photography. In documentary photography, you try to represent the subject just as it is. You don't direct what happens in the photo, you just capture the moment in time exactly as it plays out. For me, this means finding the beauty or the universal truths in the everyday moments. There is such a tendency though, to clean up the room or direct a pose that it's hard to photodocument moments as they happen. But the photos below were all candid, and I just had my camera ready.
