My story
I am a hobbyist photographer in Massachusetts. I love to photograph my family and friends and to see other photographers' work and learn from them. I also love The Moth (storytelling) podcasts, hoarding quilting fabric, reading short stories, and being near the water whenever I can. I met my husband on the train after writing a short story about him. I think in stories. I often edit with a Marvel Avengers movie in the background or listening to folk music by Lori McKenna, Brandi Carlisle, or Hayley Sabella. I'll soak in a good story regardless of whether it is read to me, sung, played out on screen, presented from a stage, or presented in imagery, like photography. If there is one thing I've learned from listening to The Moth, everyone has a story. Or many stories. All are wondrous. If anyone is perfect in their story, it is probably at least part fiction. I try to remember that myself and not worry about perfection as much as my brain tells me to. I also strive to learn from others but not get trapped in comparing my progress to others. I'm just trying to do me. I try not to get caught up in the "likes" on social media. I do appreciate constructive criticism. This year, I am building my portfolio, continuing to learn in-camera skills and editing techniques, developing my artistic vision, and mostly just enjoying the process. This is a personal endeavor and not a business. I know of a number of terrific and experienced professional photographers in this area, and I am happy to recommend them to you. But try to connect with your own story in whatever form it arises. Tell your story and feel the stories of others. Connect.
Peace and Love, Lauren
