My casual interest in taking photos of my daughter and our family life turned into a serious hobby a couple of years ago. Although I bought my first DSLR in 2007 and upgraded gear and lenses over the years, I had never thought about photography as a creative outlet. I had seen gorgeous family photography online, but I felt I was mostly taking snapshots. When my friend had a baby in 2017, I loved the photographer she used for lifestyle family photos, maternity and Fresh 48 (newborn, in hospital). That photographer (Elise Meader Photography) had materials available through Clickin Moms which shared her process in enough detail that I could easily follow what she had done. That opened my eyes to lifestyle photography, including gear, posed or loosely directly unposed shots, and image editing. Soon I had joined the Unraveled Academy online student community, which is a positive and supportive group of professional and hobbyist photographers that provide inspiration, constructive criticism, and tips in addition to many online tutorials and workshops. I have learned to edit my RAW files using Lightroom presets as a base for my own adjustments, and I have learned a lot about editing, light, and composition by following the work of photographers around the world. After trying to shoot different session types, here are some of the photography styles I most enjoy. Thank you for taking a look through my galleries and portfolio! I update throughout the year, so please come back periodically to see my progress.
